Local Attractions And Facilities

New Year on Loch Voil
During your stay we will be pleased to advise you of any events occurring locally, where to go and what to see, if you have any special requests please do not hesitate to ask.
For the walker and mountaineer the choice is vast, Balquhidder in its central location is an ideal base to explore the Bens and climb the Munros of Scotland. There are 8 Munros in the glen plus Ben Ledi, Ben Vorlich and Ben Lawers nearby
For the horse rider you can visit the equestrian centre at Crieff.
For watersports there is a centre at Loch Earn.
For the nature lover, wildlife abounds. There is an otter which plays in the loch, a pine marten which raids the bird table and deer can be seen in front of the cottages early in the morning. Also Eagle, Buzzard, Merlin, Sparrowhawk, occasional Peregrin, Red Kite and Osprey.
For the tourist, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Oban and Perth are all within one and a half hours by car.
There are two mountain bike hire shops in Callander and a cycle path from Callander to Balquhidder along a disused railway line along the side of Loch Lubnaig and from Balquhidder to Killin via Glen Ogle old rail track.
Local stalking and shooting are available by arrangement.
We have no light pollution, so on clear night skies the millions of stars are brilliant. The Milky Way and seasonal constellations easily discernable. Count the satellites criss-crossing the skies above, and if you are really lucky, see the Aurora Borealis. The Hale Bop and Halley's comets were spectacular for many nights as the crossed the sky some years ago and meteor showers have you spinning.
Note: Not June as we have light evenings.
The local villages of Lochearnhead and Strathyre have well stocked general purpose stores and Post Offices. The local town of Callander has two small supermarkets. Asda will deliver here for internet orders.
